Hotel or rental: which is right for you?

Planning a vacation? Staying in a rental, rather than a hotel, has become an increasingly popular choice for travelers. Rentals frequently offer more space for less money, a better location, and a warmer, more personal atmosphere than you’d find in a hotel. Here are five reasons to consider a rental instead of a hotel on your next trip.

Personality.
Let’s face it, hotel rooms are boring. After your day’s adventures, it’s nice to return to a cozy, welcoming home-away-from-home instead of a cookie-cutter hotel room. The presence of friendly owners – not employees – can make it feel almost as if you’re staying with family.

Space.
Whether you’re vacationing with your family or a group, or you just don’t feel like staring at the four walls, a rental offers more space than a hotel room. Communal seating, a full kitchen, and plenty of indoor and outdoor places to relax will help make your stay enjoyable, not claustrophobic.

Value.
Per square foot, rentals win the cost comparison with hotel rooms, hands-down. But vacation rentals can save you money in other ways, too. Having a kitchen means you won’t spend as much on expensive restaurant meals. Parking, laundry service, and other amenities are often included, rather than tacked onto your bill. And the owners may be able to clue you in on local bargains and other cost-saving opportunities.

Privacy.
Like to sleep in? Hang out? Spend time with loved ones? No need to worry about anyone else’s schedule when you choose a rental. Your space is your own for as long as you’re there.

Atmosphere.
Staying in a neighborhood, rather than at a tourist hotel, allows you to enjoy more of the local flavor of your destination. And after all, isn’t that what traveling is all about?

Both hotels and rentals provide convenience, cleanliness, and comfort. If you’re in town overnight and just need a place to crash, a hotel can be the easiest choice. But if you like homey surroundings and connecting with real people, a rental may be just what you’re looking for.

Like many other vacation property owners, I love what I do and I enjoy meeting visitors from all over the world. I want my guests to have a great experience, remember their stay, and come back – and they do!
