Nothing makes it feel like vacation like a hearty home-cooked breakfast, the kind you never have time to eat in real life. What are you in the mood for – bacon and eggs, fluffy pancakes, French toast, homemade granola with fruit? No matter what your favorite breakfast, you can find a standout version of it in downtown Rockport. Here are three local restaurants where they really know how to start the day right.
1. Tie: Nate’s at Front Beach and The Red Skiff.
Nate’s at Front Beach (18 Beach St.) is a little oceanside shack with an awesome view, friendly staff, and fantastic, inventive omelets. Who would have guessed you could do so many delicious things with eggs? Don’t forget to return later in the day for the best fried clams in Rockport. Nate’s is open seasonally, so check their website for hours.
The Red Skiff Seafood & Grille (15 Mt. Pleasant St.) is a Rockport landmark. The food here is good straight across the menu. Be sure to order their fabulous huge muffins, baked daily on-site, and their hearty Anadama toast. The Red Skiff can be busy during the summertime, but the welcoming, efficient staff and quick turnover mean that you won’t have to wait long for a table. Open year-round for breakfast and lunch only.
2. Brothers Brew Coffee Shop (27 Main St.). Another one of those tiny places that looks unassuming from the outside, but it’s worth the trip for their great coffee, satisfying breakfast sandwiches and their to-die-for homemade doughnuts. While you’re there, why not order a picnic lunch to take to the beach?
3. Periwinkle Cottage (7 Broadway Terrace). Okay, so this isn’t a restaurant, but if you stay at our cozy vacation rental, you can have breakfast in bed! Our cottages offer complete kitchens with all the conveniences of home, so you can enjoy a leisurely morning. Bonus: you save money by cooking your own meals. (Even so, you don’t want to miss those fried clams.) Click here for more information and reservations.
